About the scholarship
The Diverse Tech Talent Program (DTTP) is a full-ride Scholarship for Black Canadians and new immigrants to get hands-on training, mentorship, and job placement opportunities in high-demand roles like Product Design.
In this Product Design course, You will learn how to design user-centered products and solve business problems creatively.
You will also learn how to bridge the gap between psychology, design, research, technology, and business, transforming you into a powerful and creative agent in addressing real-world issues.
You will also learn how to master cutting-edge tools to create stunning visual interfaces and interactive prototypes that resonate with users.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must…
- Reside in Canada
- Identify as black, visible minority OR recent immigrant
- Posses a high school diploma
- Have a passion for problem-solving and innovation.
- Have intermediate level verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess some exposure to web and mobile applications as a user.
- Be naturally curious, detail-oriented and self-managing.

The Diverse Tech Talent Program (DTTP) Black – Product Design program is for aspiring product designers, UI/UX designers, and career switchers interested in tech.
The program will prioritize Black Canadians and new immigrants aged 18-35 in the tech sector.
Feel free to apply even if you fall outside of this scope, as we will be reviewing applications on a case-by-case basis.

Only 150 learners will be accepted for a full scholarship valued at $10,000. We recommend taking approximately 20-30 minutes to complete your application.
This certificate program teaches design tools such as Figma and Adobe XD. Spreadsheets, word processing programs, and presentation software will also be used. Throughout the program, you will create a professional portfolio to showcase your UX design work, using the platform of your choice.
Yes, we do provide certificates! Upon completing the training successfully, every candidate receives a signed certificate.
This is an 8-week program, running from Tuesday January 9 – Thursday February 29, 2024. It consists of 4 phases, including hands-on training, mentorship, and job placement opportunities in Product Management roles:

The Product Design skills training component of the DTTP program is hosted by SkillHat . It is an 8-week experience that will go over all the skills required to design user-centered products and creatively solve business problems.

There maybe other optional opportunities to network and expand your network. You will receive a Certificate of Completion from SkillHat upon completion of these 8-weeks.
Atila will be providing career mentorship and employer matching during the DTTP program.
Career Mentorship: Learners will receive group and 1-1 mentorship sessions with Atila mentors where they will learn durable skills like goal setting, resume writing, interview prep, communication skills, salary negotiation, workplace etiquette and more.
Employer Matching: Learners will be connected with employers through virtual and in-person events. Top performing learners will also be directly referred for interviews at participating employers.
WIL Hackathon component:
– 2-Day Hackathon with Demo Day (Friday – Saturday)
– Build with the Team formed during the Training component of the Program.
– Flexible time commitment with Demo Day after 48hrs
– Cash prize for top 3 teams
– Dates: March 1 – March 3, 2024
Hosted by Riipen.
Project & Work Experience: March 4 – April 1, 2024
– Atila mentors will assign DTTP participants into teams of 5.
– Each team will be matched with a Product design employer
project on the Riipen platform.
– Teams will engage in hands-on projects, collaborating with employers
and applying their skills in real work scenarios.
– Projects are completed over 40 hours, across a 4 week timeframe.
